Coombsville: Leading the Next Chapter for the Valley
When we planted our estate vineyard in 1998, we had the foresight into the potential of the Coombsville AVA. Over ten years later, in 2011, Coombsville was finally recognized as an AVA and is now widely celebrated as a world class viticultural site and the heart some of the region’s most refined wines.
A Modern Cabernet Driven by Passion
Faust is embodied by two expressions – Faust & The Pact – that each represent a modern portrait of the Napa Valley and our Coombsville Estate.
Faust was born in the pursuit of crafting bold Cabernet Sauvignon that is reflective of the natural beauty of Napa Valley and the unique characteristics of its dynamic terroir. Faust personifies a sense of passion ranging from our daring collection of wines to the polished craftsmanship of the artisans who shaped the history and future of our home.
2018 FAUST: A Modern Classic
The defining characteristics of Faust come from the backbone of fruit sourced from our own Coombsville Estate, complemented by grapes from hillside and cooler regions of the Napa Valley. This combination of fruit sourcing delivers the unmistakable richness and fruit intensity of our Cabernet Sauvignon. Through relentless exploration, our winemakers are always in pursuit of the undeniable quality and unique style, fitting of a modern Napa Valley classic.
Intense yet fresh with juicy blue and black notes. Dark chocolate mixed with dried herbs seduces the palate, while silky tannins and lifting acidity lead to a layered and lingering finish.
This wine celebrates the Faust legend which has inspired many great minds and poets, among them Goethe and Christopher Marlowe, from whose masterpiece we draw our inspiration.
Faust’s label was inspired by Christopher Marlowe’s Tragical History of Dr. Faustus (1587). Napa Valley based artist and designer Michael McDermott created an illustration that depicts the night Faust summons the devil and sells his soul.
2017 THE PACT: A Pure Expression of Coombsville
The Coombsville AVA is both the newest in Napa Valley and the furthest south. The region benefits from marine breezes coming off the nearby San Pablo Bay, as well as a long and cool growing season due to its location in the valley. This extended ripening period gives The Pact its signature silkiness, unmistakable blue and black fruit and pronounced acidity.
