Coombsville Springs to Life
As winter recedes and the soil warms, our estate vineyard shows its true colors.
SPRING IS THE SEASON OF TRANSITION in Napa Valley. At Faust’s Coombsville vineyard, winter loosens its grip slowly, giving way to damp, cold mornings and lingering overnight frosts before the first signs of renewal appear. The shift is not without challenge. in April 2023, ten days in the low 30s required repeated frost protection, with sprinklers coating the vines in ice and leaving icicles stretching up to six inches long.

FRUIT FORWARD
The heat of summer transforms tiny green berries into plump purple gems.
“SUMMER IS WHEN we really start to ask ourselves questions. ‘What are we working with here? What is the potential? Is it going to be loose clusters of small berries this year, or are they going to be bigger clusters? Do we have to do more work to make the clusters smaller to support vine growth?’ These are the questions that determine the vintage.””
